Anatoly Leman was the first Russian makers to study violin acoustics. Made about 200 violins, violas and celli, and published many books on violin acoustics. You can find information about him in the book "The Acoustical Systems of Violins of Stradivarius and Other Cremona Makers" by Issac Vigdorchik. Vigdorchik mentions that his best instruments are those made after 1903.
